Tribute to Rumsfeld

Aside from the fact that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is a true American hero, I think I will miss his witty, insightful comments.  He is a man that says exactly what he means and doesn’t play into the sound byte game with reporters.  Here is a few of his great lines:

“Learn to say, ‘I don’t know.’ If used when appropriate, it will be often.”

“Reduce the number of lawyers. They are like beavers – they get in the middle of the stream and dam it up.”

“We do know, of certain knowledge, that (Bin Laden) is either in Afghanistan or in some other country or dead.”

“Reports that say that something hasn’t happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do no know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don’t know we don’t know”

“The absence of evidence is not necessarily the evidence of absence.”

“Oh, Lord. I didn’t mean to say anything quotable.”
